Are your products made in the USA? *GASP*

I was just asked by a VERY close friend if my products are made in the USA. And this simple question led me to the realization that I don't say it anywhere on my website that my products are not only made in the USA, but made right here in Portland, OR. They are all handmade either by myself or by a local family sewing house. I design and grade all of my own patterns and do much of the work here in my studio. It is very important to me that my products are locally made to the highest quality standards.

I Took The Handmade Pledge! BuyHandmade.org

This holiday season I have been more aware of my own personal purchasing habits. I had the painful experience of being in the "handmade" section of a local holiday bazaar only to be stuck across from a dollar discounter of imported goods that literally smelled like warehouse. Oh, the waste! Wasted energy, money, landfill space, soul. I took the Buy Handmade Pledge on buyhandmade.org and am making most of my gifts. I have bought a few things to add to them - all of which are handmade by local crafters. I won't ever judge anyone on their own purchasing habits, but I do hope to inspire others to be aware of their purchasing - who it supports and what it says about our commitment to our children's futures. Support your local crafters, give a better gift AND build a better future for our children. Sounds pretty good to me.

Love and joy, Violet!
